Koi Pond with Island and Bridge
I hand dug this pond in an area that is very
rocky and when encountering an outcrop I had to make an island!!
then built a bridge.

The depth varies from 2 to 6 feet, and it almost did me in
stretching out the liner. There was a lot of old shag
carpeting in this house which I took out and used as an
underlay. All the rocks around the edges were in the hole I dug.
I concrete in odd arches around the edges to support netting as
I have an ongoing fight with Herons!!! Plus I have an electric
fence against sea otters etc.
I started with 4 baby Koi and somehow they have
multiplied - However I now add a bit of salt to their water and
have removed the plants, water lilies etc. so I doubt if any
eggs would survive. The koi are very tame and climb right out of
the water into one's hand for food.

I have a skimmer and homemade filter, plus UV light all of which
have worked very well. I am obviously a novice but really enjoy
the fish and pond, I am adding another waterfall but since I am
73 years old it takes me a while (like ongoing now for 4 years).
I sometimes wish that I could afford to pay for help!!!! But
doing it all by oneself does give great satisfaction and
pleasure. Jan Hurley
