Pond with Tiered Waterfall
Enclosed are pictures of our pond. I had been researching
pond books & magazines for years trying to decide what I wanted.
A couple of years ago while the dozer was leveling our back
yard, I asked him to dig me a hole. As you can see by the
photos, it was a very large hole. (Boy was my fiancé Joe shocked
to come home and find this huge hole in the newly landscaped
back yard! He thought I was nuts and that we’d never be able to
finish it!)
We ordered our materials and equipment. I think it took us
about three weeks to put it all together. As you can see though,
it came out beautiful. It’s exactly as I wanted. Joe however,
said he never pictured it looking so awesome!
One day, about a week after finishing, Joe was standing next
to the pond looking at the fish I’d just put in that morning
when he realized some one was standing behind him. The gentleman
introduced himself as the owner of a landscape company. He said
he’d been watching the progress of our pond from the street
everyday for the past few weeks, and that he has many clients
looking for ponds and he was wondering who did ours. He wanted
to subcontract some work. Joe just looked at him and said we did
it ourselves and that he wasn’t doing any more after all that
work! He asked how much we had spent on it and Joe told him
about $5,000.00. The landscaper said it probably would have cost
us about $12,000.00 to have a contractor do it for us.
It’s still a work in progress as we are working on lighting
the pond as well as stocking it with plants. We have some lilies
that have sprouted and begun to bloom but need more plants.
However the 75+/- fish absolutely love it! Now they have 13,000
gallons to play in! All the work was well worth it! Every
evening after work we sit in the swing and watch the fish. I
have a business at home and find myself drawn outside many times
during the day just to look and listen. It’s so relaxing. My
daughter’s friends want to pitch tents in the back yard by the
pond just to listen to the waterfall all night!
