Pond in the Carolina Pines

My name is Mickey Scarborough.
My husband, Al, & 2 teenagers started building our pond
in Nov. 2002. It was Spring of 2003 before we got it lined
and water in it. It is about 2,600 gals. We use a 4,300 GPH
pump with a waterfall type filter & a UV light.
Last summer & fall we dealt
with a leak, so late fall we put in a whole new 1 piece
rubber liner. We lost right many fish, several that we had
had from the very first. We've learned that each Spring, we
can set aside a whole weekend to get it cleaned, plants
repotted and lights reset. We hope now the worst of the hard
work is done. We do have several fish that we know are at
least 3 years old and hope to possibly have babies this
year. That's the ultimate goal of ponders, isn't it?
We have learned a lot about "ponding"
and only wish that we didn't have to sacrifice the fish to
have learned the lessons. BUT still it is a very relaxing
place to just sit, talk and work out any problems one might
have.
I have learned a lot from your
newsletters as well as other sites, sources and people. I
have sent e-mails asking questions and you have helped.
Thank you!!
The bird house was made by my
husband & younger son (17) as a Mother's Day gift this year.
It sits over our electrical supply ( again a mistake made
from not knowing what you were doing).
The pond is very personal to
me & my husband. We like to add touches ( like the raft)
that we feel really add to the character of the pond and we
DEFINITELY enjoy showing off the finished product of all of
our hard work!!
Thanks for all your help and
for considering our pictures.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mickey Scarborough
