Tips in General for a Healthy Pond |

Tips for Opening the Pond

-
§Turn
on waterfall when temperature is around 50F.
-
§Clean any debris from bottom and remove dead
plants.
-
§Carefully inspect fish for damaged fins,
scales, dermis, signs of disease, redness, lethargy.
-
§Test water!
-
§Do 10-30% water change.
-
§Clean filters well and check that everything
is working.
-
§Do scrapings on three fish for parasites.
-
§Do daily water tests and watch for ammonia.
-
§Treat any sick fish; treat pond for
parasites if needed.
-
§Feed small quantities of easily digested
food when temperature is stable at 55 or higher.
Adding New Plants

§Wash
new plants well with fresh water

§Soak in approved pesticide to
eliminate any crustaceans or parasites

§Plant in bog rather than pond with
koi

§Quarantine, quarantine, quarantine!

§Buy from reputable sources only.

and volume of the pond
